Using Visual Expert on a Single Machine with Multiple Users and a Local Database
Visual Expert (VE) is a versatile tool designed to simplify code analysis and foster collaboration among team members. By allowing multiple users to work on code projects within a shared environment, VE streamlines communication, enhances workflow management, and boosts productivity. This guide provides a step-by-step approach to using Visual Expert on a single machine with multiple users, whether you're part of a software development team, quality assurance group, or IT department.
Steps to Adding a New User to Your System
Follow these steps to create a new local user account on your machine:
- Click on the [Start] button and select the "Settings" icon (gear-shaped) from the left sidebar.
- In the Settings window, click on [Accounts] from the available options.
- On the left sidebar of the Accounts window, choose [Other Users].
- Under the "Other Users" section, click on [Add Account].
- Select [I don't have this person's sign-in information] at the bottom of the screen.
- Choose [Add a user without a Microsoft account] on the next screen.
- Enter the desired username and password for the local user account, then click [Next].
- Follow the on-screen instructions to finalize the setup of the new local user account.
Setting Up Visual Expert for the New User
Once the new user account is created, follow these steps to configure Visual Expert:
- Open the Visual Expert application. Navigate to the VE repository connection settings.
- Since you are logging in as a new user, you'll be prompted to create a new local database instance. Click on [Create new local instance].
- After clicking [Next], the local instance will be created, allowing you to connect to the repository and access projects.
Verifying the Creation of the Local Database Instance
To ensure that the local database instance was successfully created:
- Check Repository Connection Settings
Go to Settings and click on the Repository Connection icon.
- Review the Instance Details
A dialog box will appear, displaying the local database instance number under the server's name. Each user will have a unique instance number.
Alternatively, you can verify the creation of the local database by checking your system's local disk:
- Locate the Visual Expert Files
Navigate to Local Disk (C:) ➔ ProgramData ➔ Novalys ➔ VisualExpert ➔ Local Database. - Check for Multiple Folders
You should see one or more folders corresponding to the local databases created for each user.
