Dear Visual Expert Users,
We are pleased to send you the latest news about Visual
Expert!
What's going on in the Visual
Expert World?
- The new "Shared Datawindows" feature lists related
DataObjects (those calling each other with the "ShareData"
method). It relates DataWindows having similar data descriptions
(and different presentation layers)!
- A new version of Database Extractor - the utility extracting
code from Oracle, Sybase and Microsoft Databases - new GUI,
OLE DB support and more...
Coming soon: Visual
Expert 6.0!
A new major version of Visual Expert will soon be available.
Here is the first overview of the new version.
New source code view
The source code view has been redeveloped and new features
continue to be added over the coming versions.
New
source code view: For example, during an impact
analysis, the source code view will show the position
of each reference found – very useful for large
functions, as is often the case for stored procedures. |
New Navigation Bar
The navigation bar is placed on the left side of the treeview.
It offers macros available depending on the selected object
in the treeview.
This bar has been redeveloped to support new features:
New Macros
The navigation bar macros are now based on a new technology.
They have been refactored:
• Some macros provide a similar result to the previous
version.
• Many macros have been enhanced (new options to cover
more needs, presentation of results improved to make it easier
to browse…).
• New macros have been added. More about this in the
next newsletter (January 2009).
The new macros are designed to evolve easily. That is why we
need you to send us your comments
and suggestions: requests for new macros, expected enhancements…
In addition, you can test
Visual Expert 6.0 beta: any feedback is welcome!
New documentation
features
The first version of Visual Expert 6.0 is scheduled for early
2009. It will include the features presented above (source code
view, navigation bar and macros).
The following version (mid-2009) will offer a new documentation
module:
• The data describing the application can be exported
in an XML file.
• Report templates will use this XML file to generate
documents for code review, source code documentation, etc.
• These report templates will be customizable so you
can adapt the documentation content and presentation to your
needs.
