Introduction to Customization Studio 2012
Imagine a PowerBuilder extension that would allow end-users to modify applications themselves! Customization Studio lets them edit a window as if it were a simple MS Office document. Users modify the executable version of the application, without changing the source code, creating an immediate result.
Customization Studio 2012 features a new application called "NCS Designer"; it provides tools designed for non-technical users. In this presentation, we will see how to use these tools to customize reports, add new items in your windows, modernize the look & feel of the application and more...

What's new in the world for 2012?

Something we've learned from the PB Worldwide 2011 survey (that will be released shortly!) is that PowerBuilder developers are looking for a way to deploy their applications to mobile devices. Check out these articles that gives us a sneak peak of things to come.

How Quickly the Mighty Have Fallen
"...Perhaps the main issue there was the dependence on one particular mobile operating system. In order to play in this market, PowerBuilder would need to be able to generate native applications for both Android and iOS at a minimum. The Developer Agreement changes referred to earlier were reversed by Apple, so cross-compiling applications to work on iOS is acceptable once more."

Building Cross-Device Cross-Platform Mobile Applications with PowerBuilder -
"This is a very exciting time to be a PowerBuilder developer. If you attended TechWave you may have felt the positive energy from your fellow developers. Appeon was featured in the plenary session and several breakout sessions, covering mobility, cloud, and UI modernization...you may have seen the prototype of Appeon Mobile, which will enable PowerBuilder to deploy to virtually any mobile device, including iPhone, iPad, Android-based mobile and pad devices, and so on."

After PowerBuilder 12.5 Classic – Sneak Preview - Frederick Koh
"By the time you are reading this, PB12.5 will have been released and work on PB15 well under way. A lot of exciting things have gone into the .NET version of PB but we still get requests for features to go into the Classic version of the product. Even though there was a lull in activity in PB12 Classic, we are back again in 12.5 - and we are not stopping."

Try Enable
A new version of Enable for PowerBuilder has recently been released. Version 3.6 GA - build 3.6.0.11216 contains the following: native support for PB12.5 - support for MenuTitleText translation, support for Appeon for PB 10.5, 11.5, 12.x, 12. Are your applications used simultaneously by independent groups of users (clients, partners, subsidiaries…)? Visual Guard simplifies this process.
- A single system can secure all your applications
- Manage a single list of users, and give them access to all your applications
- You can even use Windows accounts to identify users, instead of the usual username/password accounts
Visual Guard supports multi-tenant applications, where a single instance of the application runs on a server, is used by multiple client organizations (or sets of users) and each client manages their data and security independently from the others.

PowerBuilder and DOS based Tetris
If you’d like to see what’s PowerBuilder capable of you can use the link below to try a game - Tetris - written in PowerBuilder. It’s based on the original DOS Tetris I used to play... In spite of all the bugs described above, the game is really playable. Give it a try especially if you are a Tetris fan or PowerBuilder fan. In this second case it is a must!
